Beau Hossler of Mission Viejo is on a mission.
The 20-year-old junior at the University of Texas won for the third time in his last five starts, claiming the Jones Cup Invitational by six strokes in chilly, windy weather at Ocean Forest Golf Club in Sea Island, Ga.
“I just started the day looking for pars,” said Hossler, who by winning earned a spot in the PGA Tour’s RSM Classic at Sea Island in November. “But it got nice there on the back nine, still windy, but it warmed up a bit.
” … I feel like I’m capable of winning every tournament I play in now.”
Jones, who is No. 2 in Golfweek’s college and world amateur rankings, posted a score of 70-74-70–214, 2-under-par, in the difficult conditions.
Matt NeSmith of North Augusta, S.C., shot 74-73-73–220 and tied for second with Blair Hamilton of Canada, who finished at 71-73-76–220, while Adrian Meronk of Poland wound up at 79-72-70–221 to tie for fourth with Mattias Schwab of Austria, who totaled 77-73-71–221, and Will Grimmer of Cincinnati, who came in at 72-72-77–221.
Josuha Lee of Orange Park, Fla., carded a score of 74-75-73–222 and tied for seventh with Zach Wright of Phoenix, who shot 73-74-75–222.
