Reavie leads AT&T with 63

Chez Reavie shot 8-under-par 63 on the Shore Course at Monterey Peninsula Country Club to take a one-stroke lead over three players after the first round of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am in Pebble Beach.

Bronson Burgoon and Cameron Smith of Australia posted 64s at Monterey Peninsula, while Freddie Jacobson of Sweden recorded a 7-under 65 at Pebble Beach Golf Links.

The 34-year-old Reavie had to go to the Web.com Tour last year to regain his PGA Tour card after missing most of 2014 because of surgery on his left wrist.

“Even on days I putt well, I still don’t make as many putts as I made today,” said Reavie, whose only PGA Tour victory came in the 2008 RBC Canadian Open, but captured the Small Business Connection Championship during the Web.com Finals last year.

” … There is a sheath in your wrist that holds all the tendons that go to your fingers. So I tore it to right on my wrist bone, so my pinkie tendon was popping over my wrist bone and me not really knowing. I tried to tape it real tight, which made it worse.

“The surgeon had done the surgery on a lot of baseball players before and had good results, so I was always hopeful.”

Justin Rose of England and J.B. Holmes carded 6-under 66s at Spyglass Hill and were tied for fifth with Spencer Levin of Elk Grove, Dawie van der Walt of South Africa, Shane Bertsch and Roberto Castro, who totaled 66 at Pebble, and Ricky Barnes of Stockton, who had a 65 at Monterey Peninsula.

Jason Gore of Valencia and Pepperdine and Hiroshi Iwata of Japan shot 66s at Monterey Peninsula and were tied for 12th with Australians Ryan Ruffels, who had a 67 at Pebble, Rhein Gibson, who matched that score at Spyglass Hill.

Phil Mickelson tied for 16th with a 68 at Spyglass, while top-ranked Jordan Spieth and No. 2 Jason Day of Australia were in a tie for 65th with 71s at Spyglass.

Brandt Snedeker, who has won the tournament twice in the last three years, opened with a 72 at Spyglass and was tied for 82nd.
