DeChambeau is Male Amateur of Year

Bryson DeChambeau of Clovis has been selected Male Amateur of the Year by Global Golf Post and leads the 2015 All-Am Team presented by Polo.

Emma Talley of Princeton, Ky., who plays at Alabama, is Female Amateur of the Year.

“I study and admire Ben Hogan for his ball-striking ability as well as his determination and work ethic,” said DeChambeau, who left SMU this fall after joining Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods and Ryan Moore as the only players to win the NCAA Championship and the U.S. Open in the same year.

“I like to think that I approach the game the same way Hogan did, that I work hard and overcome obstacles, and just ball-strike a course to death.”

DeChambeau is joined on the Men’s All-Am team by Maverick McNealy of Portola Valley and Stanford; Beau Hossler of Mission Viejo and the University of Texas; Jon Rahm of Spain and Arizona State; Paul Dunne of Ireland and University of Alabama-Birmingham; Roman Lanasque of France; Marcus Kinhult of Sweden; Ashley Chesters of England; Hunter Stewart of Lexington, Ky., and Vanderbilt, and Jordan Niebrugge of Mequon, Wis., and Oklahoma State.

On the second team are Aaron Wise of Lake Elsinore and the University of Oregon; Dawson Armstrong of Brentwood, Tenn., and Lipscomb University; Derek Bard of New Hartford, N.Y., and the University of Virginia; Steffano Mazzoli of Italy, Denny McCarthy of Rockville, Md., and the University of Virginia; Lee McCoy of Clarkesville, Ga., and the University of Georgia; Matthew Nesmith of North Augusta, S.C., and the University of South Carolina; Ryan Ruffels of Australia; Cormac Sharvin of Ireland, and Robby Shelton of Wilmer, Ala., and the University of Alabama.

Among those receiving honorable mention are Shotaro Ban of San Jose and Cal; Sean Crocker of Zimbabwe and USC; Maz Rottluff of Germany and Arizona State, and Scottie Scheffler of Dallas and the University of Texas.

Talley captured the 2015 NCAA Women’s Championship and also made the cut in two LPGA Tour events, including the U.S. Women’s Open.

“Golf is one of those games that allows you to travel the world, meet people and have an impact on other lives,” said Talley, who won the 2013 U.S. Women’s Amateur. “That’s what I love most about it. The journey and process are the best part, more so than the winning.

“The winning is the bonus at the end of this incredible process.

Talley is joined on the Women’s All-Am Team by Bronte Law of England and UCLA; Bethany Wu of Diamond Bar and UCLA; USC commit Hannah O’Sullivan of Chandler, Ariz.; Leona Maguire of Ireland and Duke; Maria Parra of Spain and the University of Miami; Wake Forest commit Sierra Brooks of Lake Mary, Fla.; Nuria Iturrios of Spain; Linnea Strom of Sweden and Arizona State, and So-Young Lee of South Korea.
