Maverick McNealy of Stanford tied the school record set by Tiger Woods when he claimed his 11th career victory by two strokes over Wyndham Clark of Oregon in the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
McNealy, a senior from Portola Valley, carded a score of 68-66-68–202, 8-under-par, to help the Cardinals tie for sixth, while Clark finished at 68-66-70–204.
Woods set the record in 1996 and it was tied by Patrick Rodgers in 2014.
“Hats off to Maverick on his 11th individual win, which puts him up there with the all-time greats,” said Coach Conrad Ray of Stanford, who played with Woods on Stanford’s 1994 NCAA Championship team. “Hopefully, there are more wins to come.
“The Nike Collegiate Invitational was a great way to open the season. The guys learned a lot about their games on a championship track.”
McNealy, who won his season opener for the third straight year, was tied for the lead with Clark entering the final round, but took control with birdies on four of his first eight holes.
