WINNING SEASON: PGA sections present awards to top achievers

Scott Stubbs is the Southern California PGA Golf Professional of the Year.


The Southern California, Northern California and Southwest sections of the PGA have selected the winners of their respective 2012 annual awards, handed out to PGA professionals and industry leaders who have excelled in the game and business of golf.

“Our honorees do so much every day to help people enjoy their golfing experience, whether it’s by improving their playing ability, creating special events, donating to the community, informing the public or even making sure the right merchandise is available in the Pro Shop,” said NCPGA Awards Chairman Ted Mattila, PGA. “We want to acknowledge and celebrate their many contributions to the game.”

Following is a list of winners from each of the three sections:

Hall of Fame Inductee: Jamie Mulligan, Chief Operations Officer, Virginia Country Club, Long Beach

Hall of Fame Inductee: J.D. Ebersberger, Owner/operator, The Palms Golf Club, La Quinta

Honorary Life Member: Ed Holmes, President, The Shale Companies and Cove Builders, Inc

Teacher of the Year: Glenn Deck, Director of Instruction, Pelican Hill Golf Academy, Newport Coast

Junior Golf Leader: Billy Gibbs, Blacklake Golf Resort / Program Director, The First Tee of Central Coast

Horton Smith Award: John Mason, Director of Instruction, JC Golf School, Encinitas Ranch

Assistant Golf Professional of the Year: Kim Falcone, La Jolla Country Club, La Jolla

Club Fitter of the Year: Tim Skophammer, Teaching Professional, Empire Lakes Golf Course, Rancho Cucamonga

Bill Strausbaugh Award: Jason Taylor, Executive Director, Lorena Ochoa Foundation

Merchandiser of the Year (Resort): Joe Williams, Golf Director, Indian Wells Golf Resort

Merchandiser of the Year (Public): Scott Scozzola, Golf Director, DeBell Golf Club, Burbank
