William Mouw of Chino and Pepperdine earned medalist honors by five strokes in the United States Open final qualifying event on the famed Ocean Course at the Olympic Club in San Francisco.
The 122nd U. S. Open will be played on June 16-19 at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass.
Mouw (pictured), who will be a senior for the Waves next season, posted a score of 67-63—130, 12-under-par, while Charles Reiter of Palm Desert and the University of San Diego was second at 66-69—135.
“I played with some really nice guys today and I had fun with my caddy out there,” said Mouw, whose margin of victory was the largest in all 11 final qualifiers. “I just stayed in the present and enjoyed getting to play golf out here at The Olympic Club.”
Said Reiter, who shot 8-under 28 on the back nine in the afternoon round: “I didn’t even realize it until I was on 18 when I made the putt there. I thought I had shot 29 but then I remembered it was a par 36. It was pretty cool. I was just patient and knew that I had a lot of holes left. I didn’t really miss a putt on that back nine.”

Those five earned berths in the U.S. Open.
