Koepka gives up Euro Tour card

Brooks Koepka, who left Florida State and made his bones as a professional in Europe, has decided to concentrate on the PGA Tour and give up his membership on the European Tour.

The 25-year-old Koepka, who was the 2014 European Tour Rookie of the Year, who did not defend his title last week in the Turkish Airlines Open, made the announcement through Blake Smith, his manager at Hambric Sports.

Part of the reason he did not defend his title was because he had played 13 of the last 16 weeks dating to the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open, one week before the Open Championship at St. Andrews in July.

Koepka, who claimed four victories on the Challenge Tour in Europe in 2012 and 2013, took his first title on the PGA Tour in February at the Waste Management Phoenix Open to earn a two-year exemption on the circuit, and has risen to No. 12 in the World Golf Rankings.

Apparently, he reached his decision to play only on the PGA Tour after he played mediocre golf in the first two events of the 2015-16 season, tying for 41st in the Frys.com Open and missing the cut in the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.

Koepka finished in the top 25 of the last three majors this year, including a tie for fifth in the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits.
