Brooke Henderson is a proud Canadian, but she loves the Pacific Northwest of the United States.
The 18-year-old Henderson shot 1-under-par 71 to win the Cambia Portland Classic for the second straight year by four strokes over Stacy Lewis at Columbia Edgewater Country Club in Portland, Ore.
“I didn’t really putt that well, but I made a couple down the stretch when I needed them,” said Henderson, who also won the Women’s PGA Championship last month at Sahalee near Seattle and probably will be the favorite this week in the U.S. Women’s Open at CordeValle Golf Club in San Martin, near San Jose.
“To repeat as champion is really, really cool, and also to have three wins on the LPGA Tour against the best players in the world. I’m really looking forward to next week.”
Lewis, who has won 11 times on the LPGA Tour but not since the 2014 NW Arkansas Championship, made four birdies in six holes through No. 10 en route to a 69, while Suzann Pettersen of Norway was five shots back in third after a 72.
Mariajo Uribe of Colombia, a two-time All-American at UCLA, tied Henderson for the lead with a birdie on the 11th hole, but played the last seven holes in 6-over to finish at 75 and was another stroke behind in a tie for fourth with Austin Ernst, the 2014 Cambia champion, who had a 73.
Christina Kim of San Jose recorded a bogey-free 66, low round of the day, and finished seven shots back in a tie for sixth with Cheyenne Woods, niece of Tiger, who totaled 72, Lee-Anne Pace of South Africa, who had a 68, and Lee Lopez of Whittier and UCLA, who came in at 73.
