Alex Chin of Pleasanton defeated Wenliang Xie of China by two strokes to win the fourth annual McClure Cup at Bayonet-Black Horse Golf Course www.bbhgolf.com in Seaside.
Chin, a junior at the University of San Francisco, who finished second in the AmateurGolf.com Winter Invitational at Corica Park in Alameda shortly before Christmas, carded a score of 67-69-73—209, 7-under-par, while Xie finished at 70-71-70—211.
After taking a three-stroke lead into the final round, Chin fell behind by making three bogeys on the first seven holes before turning things around with two birdies on the next three holes and two more at Nos. 16 and 17, so he could even afford a double-bogey 6 on the final hole.
