Bowditch claims four-stroke victory

Steve Bowditch of Australia earned his second victory on the PGA Tour, closing with a 5-under-par 64 to win the AT&T Byron Nelson by four strokes over Charley Hoffman, Jimmy Walker and Scott Pinckney at soggy TPC Las Colinas in Fort Worth, Texas.

The 31-year-old Bowditch, who moved to the Dallas-Fort Worth area 10 years ago, pulled away from the field by carding six birdies while playing the last 13 holes without a bogey.

“I just had to stick to my game plan and stay patient out there,” said Bowditch, who also won the Valero Texas Open last year. “I hadn’t made many putts the last couple days, but I just had to wait for my time and it was nice to finally see a few go in.

“Then the nerves kicked in and I had to calm myself down and just take it shot-by-shot. Walking up the last hole (with a comfortable lead) was a nice feeling.”

The course again played to a par of 69, with the 14th hole shortened from a par 4 to a par 3, because the fairway was unplayable due to heavy rain this week.

Hoffman, from Poway and UNLV, shot 65 to climb five spots on the leaderboard, while Walker and Pinckney both had 66s.

Zach Johnson recorded the low round of the day, a 63, to finish five shots back in solo fifth, while Brandt Snedeker totaled 64 to wind up another stroke behind in a tie for sixth with 36-hole leader Jon Curran, who totaled 68.

Dustin Johnson was tied for the lead before hitting his tee shot on the sixth hole out of bounds to the left and reloading only to find the deep rough on the right en route to a quadruple bogey-8. He carded a 69 was eight shots back in a tie for eighth with Jason Dufner, who had a 66.

Masters champion Jordan Spieth, the local favorite, closed with a 69 and tied for 30th.
