Valuck Claims SOS Founders Cup at LaCosta

Jon Valuck of Oklahoma City won the Society of Seniors Founders Cup by five strokes over Steven Hakes of Coronado and Kenny Weixel of New Albany, Ohio, on the Champions Course at La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad.

Scott Parker of La Quinta claimed the Super Senior Division and Ron Johnson of Walnut Creek won the Grand Masters Division.

Valuck (pictured), who finished fourth in the tournament last year, recorded a score of 76-72-75—223, 7-over-par, while Hakes finished at 76-74-78—228 and Weixel wound up at 76-79-73—228.

Larry Nunez of Austin, Texas, was fourth at 76-81-74—231, while first-round leader Bob Beck of Allentown, Pa., totaled 74-79-79—232 to tie for fifth with Robin Bradbury of Superior, Colo., who came in at 80-79-73—232.

Paul Weinhold of Eugene, Ore., shot 79-80-74—233 to tie for seventh with Edward Vomastek of Traverse City, Mich., who finished at 79-77-77—233, while Doug Potter of La Quinta totaled 77-83-75—235 to tie for 10th with Tom Hyland of Palm Coast, Fla., who wound up at 78-78-79—235.

Parker took the Super Senior Division at 76-72-75—223, followed by Jay Blumenfeld of Parsippany, N.J., at 79-74-75—228, while Jody Vasquez of Aledo, Texas, shot 79-77—74—230 to tie for fourth with George Walker of Fairhope, Ala., at 75-80-75—230.

Doug Pool of Las Vegas was fifth at 71-75-75—231, followed by Rick Doebler of Fullerton at 77-75-80—232, and Jerry McMullen of Carmel, Ind., at 72-77-75—234, while Bill Brammer of Rancho Santa Fe totaled 82-80-74—236 to tie for eighth with Sean Forey of Morrison, Colo., who finished at 74-74-74—236, and Dan Alpha of The Woodlands, Texas, was 10th at 78-82-78—238.

Johnson took the Grand Masters title with a score of 74-76-69—219, followed by Gaylord Davis of Portland, Ore., at 76-75-76—227, while Rick Kline of Pinehurst, N.C., totaled 80-74-74—228 to tie for third with Jack Ramsey of Germantown, Pa., who finished at 74-76-78—228.

Michael Mahoney of La Jolla was fifth at 79-77-75—231, while Jerry Hutton of Long Beach shot 80-80-72—232 to tie for sixth with George Washburn of Frederick, Md., who wound up at 76-81-75—232.

Jim Rollefson of Franklin, Wis., was eighth at 77-78-81—236, followed by John Seehausen of Inverness, Ill., at 82-75-80—237, while Robert Jordan of La Habra shot 86-82-74—242 to tie for 10th with Jim Saivar of San Diego, who shot 79-86-77—242, John   Walker of Scottsdale, Ariz., who totaled 82-84-76—242, and Jim Grubbs of Austin, Texas, who came in at 83-81-78—242.
