Tiger Woods, the erstwhile No. 1 player in the world, has been paired with top-ranked Jason Day of Australia and No. 3 Dustin Johnson in the first two rounds of the Farmers Insurance Open, which begins Thursday at Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla.
The threesome is scheduled to tee off at 10:40 a.m. PST on the South Course on Thursday, and at 9:30 a.m. PST on the North Course on Friday.
The event will mark Woods’ first appearance in a PGA Tour event in 17 months following two back surgeries. He tied for 10th the Wyndham Championship, his last tournament, in August 2015.
“I know that he’s very motivated to come out and play well,” Day said. “I think he’s excited. Who wouldn’t be excited to play after 17 months off? That’s a long time.”
Day (pictured left) tied for 12th in the SBS Tournament of Champions to start 2017 after coming off his own back injury, while Johnson (right), finished second last week in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.
Woods, 41, has won the tournament at Torrey Pines a record seven times and also claimed his 14th, and last, major title in the 2008 U.S. Open, when he outlasted Rocco Mediate in a 19-hole playoff.
Woods, who last was No. 1 in the world in 2013 when he won five times on the PGA Tour, this week is ranked No. 663. He has been No. 1 on 11 occasions in his career for a total of 683 weeks, both records.
