Where to play, where to stay and how to save on a fall golf getaway
Summer may be winding down, but the Tahoe golf season isn’t over.
September and early October can be an excellent time to head to the Sierra, with cooler temperatures, changing fall colors, fewer summer crowds and some attractive late-season golf rates.
From Truckee and North Lake Tahoe to the South Shore—and even a worthwhile side trip to Grizzly Ranch—there is still plenty of golf to be played before winter arrives.
The key is knowing where to play, when to go and where the best fall values can be found.
WHY FALL CAN BE A GREAT TIME TO PLAY TAHOE
Peak summer commands peak prices at many Tahoe-area courses. As the calendar moves into late September and October, several properties begin reducing green fees or offering better afternoon values.
At Edgewood Tahoe, for example, the published daily rate drops from $450 during July and August to $350 beginning September 14 and $300 in October. Tahoe Donner moves to its late-season pricing September 28, while Coyote Moon begins its late-season rates October 5.
Mountain weather is always a consideration, especially later in the season, so check course conditions and availability directly before traveling.
But if the weather cooperates, fall can be one of the most interesting times to experience Tahoe golf.

GRIZZLY RANCH GOLF CLUB
Portola, California
Grizzly Ranch is not technically in Lake Tahoe, but it is well worth adding to a Tahoe/Truckee golf trip. Located near Portola, the Bob Cupp-designed course delivers a secluded High Sierra experience surrounded by forests, mountain views and very little development.
The course stretches beyond 7,400 yards from the back tees, but multiple tee options make it playable for a wide range of golfers. The setting is a major part of the appeal—this feels like an escape into the mountains rather than simply another round of golf.
Fall Value: Grizzly Ranch’s published 2026 regular-season rates are $175 Sunday through Thursday and $195 Friday and Saturday through September 24, with $130 twilight after 2 p.m. Published fall group rates drop to $130 beginning September 25.

TRUCKEE GOLF
Truckee makes an excellent home base for golfers who want to play several courses during the same trip. Old Greenwood, Gray’s Crossing, Coyote Moon and Tahoe Donner are all in the Truckee area, making it possible to build an entire golf getaway without spending hours driving between rounds.
OLD GREENWOOD
Truckee, California
Jack Nicklaus brought his signature design philosophy to the Sierra at Old Greenwood, a championship layout stretching through 600 acres of towering pines. At more than 7,500 yards from the back tees, it can provide all the golf you want, while multiple tees make it accessible to players who simply want to enjoy the mountain setting.
Fall Value: Old Greenwood’s published public rates through October 11 are dynamic. Monday through Wednesday rates are listed at $257 during the day, dropping to $180 after 3:30 p.m. Thursday through Sunday rates are listed at $303, dropping to $212 after 3:30 p.m.

GRAY’S CROSSING
Truckee, California
Gray’s Crossing gives golfers another championship option just minutes away. The Peter Jacobsen-designed course combines mountain scenery with a layout that moves through pine forest and open meadow, making it an easy course to pair with Old Greenwood on a multi-round Truckee trip.
Fall Value: Published rates through October 11 are also dynamic. Monday through Wednesday public rates are listed at $232, dropping to $162 after 3:30 p.m. Thursday through Sunday rates are $273, with a $191 rate after 3:30 p.m.

COYOTE MOON GOLF COURSE
Truckee, California
Set on approximately 250 acres of secluded Sierra terrain, Coyote Moon delivers a true mountain-golf experience without homes lining the fairways. The course winds through towering pines, granite outcroppings and significant elevation changes, creating a peaceful setting just minutes from downtown Truckee.
Fall Value: Peak-season rates are $225 before 1 p.m., $195 from 1–2:50 p.m. and $165 from 3 p.m. to close. Beginning October 5, late-season rates fall to $150 before 1 p.m. and $120 after 1 p.m. Rates include a shared golf cart and warm-up balls.

TAHOE DONNER GOLF COURSE
Truckee, California
Tahoe Donner provides another strong Truckee option, with a par-72 course winding through the pines and mountain terrain above town.
Fall Value: This is one of the clearest fall savings in the region. Prime-season public golf is $205 through September 27. Beginning September 28, the published late-season rate drops to $165, with twilight at $120 and super twilight at $100.

INCLINE VILLAGE CHAMPIONSHIP COURSE
Incline Village, Nevada
The Incline Village Championship Course brings traditional mountain golf to the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe. Its elevation, tree-lined corridors and North Shore location make it a convenient choice for golfers staying in Incline Village or exploring both sides of the lake.

The Mountain Course provides a shorter alternative to its championship neighbor and can be a particularly good choice for couples, families, newer golfers or anyone looking to add another round without committing most of the day.
It also provides a more affordable way to experience golf in Incline Village.

SOUTH SHORE GOLF
EDGEWOOD TAHOE GOLF COURSE
Stateline, Nevada
Few courses identify with Lake Tahoe quite like Edgewood. The George Fazio design sits directly along the lake and combines championship golf with views that make the setting as memorable as the course itself.
Edgewood is also home to the American Century Championship, but once the summer crowds begin to disappear, fall presents a very different opportunity to experience the course.
Fall Value: Published 2026 rates are $450 from September 1–13, but drop to $350 from September 14–30 and $300 in October. October twilight begins at 2:30 p.m. and is listed at $225. Rates include 18 holes, golf cart, GPS and range balls.

South Lake Tahoe, California
Located in Lake Valley State Recreation Area, Lake Tahoe Golf Course offers another option for golfers staying on the South Shore. Its mountain setting makes it easy to combine with an Edgewood round while providing a different Tahoe golf experience.

WHERE TO STAY
EDGEWOOD TAHOE RESORT

For golfers who want to stay and play in the same location, Edgewood offers the most seamless South Shore experience. The lakefront resort combines accommodations, dining, spa amenities and golf without having to leave the property.
For a short Tahoe golf getaway built around playing Edgewood, the convenience is difficult to beat.

HOW TO SAVE ON A FALL TAHOE GOLF TRIP
The biggest lesson when planning a Tahoe golf trip is simple: don’t assume you have to pay peak-summer prices.
At Edgewood, the published daily rate falls from $450 during peak summer to $300 in October. Tahoe Donner drops from $205 to $165 beginning September 28. Coyote Moon falls from $225 during peak morning hours to $150 before 1 p.m. beginning October 5.
Afternoon golf can provide another opportunity to save. Old Greenwood, Gray’s Crossing, Tahoe Donner and Edgewood all publish lower late-day options during portions of the season.
There is a tradeoff. These are mountain courses, and weather becomes less predictable as the season progresses. Opening and closing dates can change, and an early snowfall can quickly alter plans.
But golfers willing to remain flexible can find some compelling late-season opportunities.
BUILD YOUR OWN FALL TAHOE GOLF GETAWAY
One of the best things about a Tahoe golf trip is that you don’t have to play the same style of golf every day.
For a three-night golf getaway, consider making Truckee your base and combining Old Greenwood or Gray’s Crossing with Coyote Moon and Tahoe Donner. The courses are close enough that the trip remains relaxing rather than becoming a daily driving exercise.
For a more resort-oriented trip, stay on the South Shore and make Edgewood the centerpiece, then add Lake Tahoe Golf Course or venture north for another round.
And golfers driving into the region can make Grizzly Ranch part of the journey, adding a secluded High Sierra experience to the traditional Tahoe itinerary.
Whether you choose Truckee, North Lake Tahoe or the South Shore, don’t wait too long.
There is still time to play Tahoe—and fall might be one of the best times to do it.
