Sorensen, Holm Share SCPGA Robinson Title

Alan Sorensen of Buena Vista Golf Club in Taft made his fifth birdie of the day on the final hole to tie Matt Holm of the PGA Superstore in Palm Desert for the title in the Southern California PGA’s Senior Joe Robinson Memorial Tournament at Jurupa Hills Country Club in Riverside.

Sorensen (pictured), the 2017 SCPGA Senior PGA champion, claimed his third title and 15th top-10 finish of the year in section events by matching Holm’s even-par 70.

Holm, who tied for second in the Memorial Joe Robinson two years ago, made three straight birdies through No. 16 to take a two-stroke lead, but mode a bogey at No. 17 before finishing with a par.

The co-champions both earned $250.

Mike Fergin of Mesa Verde Country Club in Costa Mesa, who has two SCPGA victories in 2019, stumbled with a double-bogey 7 on the 15th hole and shot 71 to tie for third with Scott Mallory of the Journey at Pechanga in Temecula and Brett Massingham of Dove Canyou Country Club in Trabuco Canyon.

Chuck Minerd of Torrance totaled 73 to tie for sixth with Allen Merryman of Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla, while Scott McCue of The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe was eighth at 74.

Ross Marcano of Barona Creek Golf Club in Lakeside finished at 75 to tie for 10th with Robert Deruntz of GIR Golf Academy in Terra Cotta.

Dan Hornig of Nexbelt captured the Mid-Senior Division title with a score of 69, while Tim Parun of Coronado Golf Club, who won the Senior Division title last year, shot 70 to tie for second with Jeff Hart of Solana Beach.

Jerry Wisz of Covina carded the low score of the day at 66 to claim the Super Senior Division title, while Jon Fiedler of Las Posas Country Club in Camarillo totaled 71 to tie for second with Fred Wood of Oceanside Golf Course.
