Seventh-ranked San Jose State claimed its third victory of the Spring season, winning the Silverado Showdown by two strokes over second-ranked Oregon on the North Course at Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa.
The Spartans, who have beaten top-ranked Stanford in the Lampkin Invitational and the Juli Inkster Invitational recently, posted a winning score of 287-290-293—870, 6-over-par, with Oregon was second at 288-297-287—872, while Texas A&M totaled 294-292-294—880 to tie for third with Arizona, which wound up at 297-292-291—880.
“Oregon is really tough, but down the stretch we made a couple of key birdies to hold on,” San Jose State Coach Dana Dormann said. “We’ve been in this position so many times before, so I knew they had it in them and luckily, it came out our way again.
“This team is strong, free-wheeling and a lot of fun. It’s awesome to watch this happen.”
USC was fifth at 300-297-290—887, followed by Oregon State at 305-303-282—890, while Arizona State wound up at 302-300-290—892 to tie for seventh with Northwestern, which finished at 300-293-299—892.
San Diego State shot 303-299-298—900 to tie for ninth with Colorado, which totaled 302-296-302—900, and Washington, which came in at 301-303-296—900.
California tied for 13th at 308-304-292—904.
Alessandra Fanali of Arizona State claimed the individual title at 69-71-69—209, 7-under, followed by Caitlyn Macnab of Texas Christian at 74-68-70—212 and Antonia Malate of San Jose State at 69-68-76—213, while Alexandra Fosterling of Arizona State totaled 75-72-67—214 to tie for fourth with Hailee Cooper of Texas A&M, who finished at 69-73-72—214.
Kajsa Arwefjall of San Jose State wound up at 71-73-71—215 to tie for sixth with Chayse Gomez of Oregon State, who shot 75-73-67—215, and Carolina Melgrati of Arizona, who totaled 75-71-69—215.
Hailey Schalk of Colorado was ninth at 74-71-71—216, while Natasha Andrea Oon finished at 72-73-72—217 to tie for 10th with Ellie Slama of Oregon State, who wound up at 72-78-67—217, Lilas Pinthier of Arizona, who shot 74-73-70—217, and Ching-Tzu Chen of Oregon, who came in at 70-74-73—217.
Amari Averi and Katherine Muzi led USC in a tie for 18th, both at 75-74-71—220, Aniko Sato of San Diego State tied for 22nd at 73-76-73—222, and Tzu-Yi Chang of California tied for 28th at 78-72-73—223.
Rounding out the scoring for team champion San Jose State were Lucia Lopez-Ortega in a tie for 33rd at 75-76-74—225 and Louisa Carlbom in a tie for 70th at 79-79-76—234.
