San Diego Might Open Courses on Friday

Even though golf courses in Los Angeles County, the San Francisco Bay Area, the Pebble Beach area and San Diego County remain closed, more counties are loosening restrictions caused by the Coronavirus pandemic and more golfers have been able to once again hit the links.

In fact, San Diego County hopes to reopen its courses on Friday, with the usual social distancing guidelines.

“Starting May 1, the County is hoping to relax more restrictions for parks and golf courses if they can enforce social distancing,” read a statement released by San Diego County. “Operators of a park or golf course need to create and post a plan for how they will do that.”

Included are the three courses operated by the City of San Diego Parks and Recreation Department—Torrey Pines Golf Course (pictures) with its North and South layouts in La Jolla, Balboa Park Golf Course and Mission Bay Golf Course.

Should San Diego County reopen its courses it would join several other counties that have done so recently, including Placer County, Stanislaus County and Napa County in Northern California; Kern County and San Luis Obispo County in Central California, and Ventura County, Orange County, Riverside County, San Bernardino County in Southern California.

Sacramento County courses have been open throughout the Coronavirus crisis.

Despite the recent re-openings, approximately 60 percent of the golf courses in California remain closed and all that are open have Covid-19 restrictions.
