Ryann O’Toole of San Clemente, trying to regain playing status on the LPGA Tour, shot a bogey-free 5-under-par 67 and tied for second, one stroke behind Casey Grice after the first of five rounds in the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament at LPGA International Golf Club in Daytona Beach, Fla.
O’Toole, a 2009 graduate of UCLA who won three times on what is now the Symetra Tour, birdied three of her last five holes on the Jones Course.
“Round 1 done,” O’Toole said on Twitter. “Happy about my performance. Tomorrow 10:12 tee off The Hills course.”
Cheyenne Woods, niece of Tiger Woods, made her only bogey on the first hole and finished in a tie for fifth with a 68.
Alison Lee of Valencia, the fourth-ranked amateur in the world and a sophomore at UCLA, was tied for 24th after an eagle on the 18th hole left her at 71, and Annie Park, a USC junior, was tied for 105th following a 75.
