Brianna Navarrosa of San Diego sank a 10-foot birdie putt on the third playoff hole to turn back Grace Summerhays of Scottsdale, Ariz., and win the Cactus Collegiate Challenge, an event on the Cactus Tour, at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz.
The 20-year-old Navarossa, a sophomore at USC, posted a score of 71-68-70—209, 7-under-par, while Summerhays, who will attend Arizona State at the start of the new semester, finished a 70-68-71—209.
Both players went par-birdie on the first two extra holes.
Navarossa finished second in the Southern California Women’s Match Play Championship and the Fresno State Classic among four other top-10 finishes in 2021. Her last victory came in the 2019 Canadian Women’s Amateur.
Alyzzah Vakasiuola of Queen Creek, Ariz., was third at 72-70-73—215, followed by Anika Varma of Roseville at 74-70-72—216, Faith Kilgore of Wimberley, Texas, at 71-73-73—217, Alyson Sor of Long Beach at 69-72-77—218, and Apelila Galeai of Orem, Utah, at 76-76-67—219.
Ashley Kim of Redondo Beach shot 77-73-70—220 to tie for eighth with Meghan Royal of Carlsbad, who totaled 78-69-73—220, and Caroline Wales of La Quinta, who wound up a 70-76-74—220.
