Yuki Moriyama of Japan and Las Vegas pulled away in the final round to win the Boys 15-18 Division in the 12th annual Future Champions Golf National Championship by three strokes over Jackson Moss of San Diego at Carlton Oaks Country Club https://www.carltonoaksgolf.com in Santee.
Moriyama, 17, who captured the Golf Digest Japan Junior Classic and the Optimist International Junior Championship earlier this year, carded a score of 66-70-65—201, 15-under-par, while Moss was second at 68-64-72—204.
Last year, Moriyama won the FGC International Junior title, and he has committed to the University of Oregon for 2020 after he graduates from Halstrom Academy in San Diego.
Conner Obrien of Irvine was third at 67-72-68—207, followed by Canon Olkowski of Las Vegas at 68-69-72—209 and Johnnie Clark of Mesa, Ariz., at 65-69-76—210.
Krando Nishiba of San Diego shot 71-69-71—211 to tie for sixth with Ryan Hartanto, also of San Diego, who finished at 69-69-73—211, while Brian Xu of San Diego was eighth at 69-69-74—212, and Jaden Cantafio or Irvine totaled 70-72-72—214 to tie for ninth with Ethan Chung of Murrieta, who came in at 71-69-74—214.
Other champions include Kaili Xiao of Chino Hills in the Girls 9-10 Division; Eric Chavez of Ladera Beach in the Boys 7-8 Division; Victoria Cui of Atherton in the Girls 7-8 Division; Rickie Wang of West Vancouver, B.C., Canada, in the Boys 6-and-under Division, and Danielle Wilcox of Lakeside in the Girls 6-and-under Division,
