Shim, 15, Claims 48th Arizona Silver Belle

Ashley Shim of San Mateo claimed the biggest victory of her young career, winning the 48th annual Joanne Winter Arizona Silver Belle by four strokes over four players at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz.

The 15-year-old Kim, who earlier this year played in the U.S. Women’s Amateur and the Rolex Girls’ Junior, carded a score of 74-65-70—209, 4-under-par, and was the only player to break par for 54 holes.

Kenzie Wright of McKinley, Texas, the 2015 Silver Belle champion, shot 69-72-72—213 to tie for second with Briana Chacon of Whittier, who totaled 70-74-69—213, Ashley Menne of Surprise, Ariz., who finished at 73-74-66—213, and Kelly Su of Scottsdale, Ariz., who came in at 72-71-70—213.

Sabrina Iqbal of San Jose posted a score of 71-73-71—215 to tie for sixth with Hailey Schalk of Erie, Colo., who finished at 74-73-68—215, Julie Ju of Chandler, Ariz., who wound up at 67-74-74—215, and Waverly Whiston of San Diego, who totaled 69-78-68—215.

Hailey Borja of Lake Forest recorded a score of 74-74-68—216 to tie for 10th with Brianna Navarrosa of San Diego (74-73-69—216), Kailie Vongsaga of Diamond Bar (73-75-68—216), Kynadie Adams of Gallatin, Tenn. (72-74-70—216), Megha Ganne of Holmdel, N.J. (73-69-74—216), Ashleigh Park of Irvine (71-73-72—216), and Isabel Sy of San Gabriel (73-72-71—216).

Brigitte Dunne of Camarillo, the 2016 Silver Belle champion who led after 36 holes this time, carded two double bogeys and a triple bogey in the final round at slid to a tie for 17th at 70-68-79—217.
