Ma, who captured the 2017 San Francisco City Championship with a 15-foot birdie putt on the final hole, made a par on the second playoff hole to turn back Luis Diaz of Windsor and win the Contra Costa County Amateur at Boundary Oak Golf Course https://www.playboundaryoak.com in Walnut Creek.
The 18-year-old Ma, who tied for third this year in the Alameda Commuters and also tied for eighth in the San Jose City Amateur Championship, posted a score of 72-69—141, 3-under-par, while Diaz finished at 70-71—141.
Spencer Hulsey of San Francisco shot 74-72—146 to tie for third with Brent Booth of Los Altos, who finished at 75-71—146, and Joshua Diaz of Discovery Bay, who wound up at 69-77—146.
Garrett Wagner, who won the tournament in 2016, carded a score of 73-75—148 to tie for sixth with Nick Frisk of Rohnert Park, who totaled 75-73—148, James Erskine of San Francisco, who finished at 73-75—148, and Taylor Hobin of Antioch, who came in at 74-74—148.
Brandon Baker of Bay Point shot 76-74—150 to tie for 10th with Justin Howell of Oakland, who wound up at 77-73—150.
