Hakim Wins 71st Monterey City Am by 1

Ash Hakim of San Ramon came from four strokes down in the final round to capture the 71st Monterey City Amateur by one shot over Ben Sacher of Mill Valley at Griffin Long of Davis at Del Monte Golf Course in Monterey.

Long had a one-stroke lead over playing partner Soicher and Hakim, who was the leader in the clubhouse before faltering with a double bogey on the final hole, where Soicher had a bogey to make Hakim the winner.

The tournament was not played last year because of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Hakim, who also captured the 2018 Sacramento City Championship and the 2016 AmateurGolf.com Christmas Classic at Del Monte and will be a fifth-year senior at St. Mary’s posted a score of 72-71-68—211, 5-under-par, while Soicher, the 36-hole leader, finished at 68-71-73—212, and Long wound up at 69-72-71—212.

Nick Moore of Seaside, who has 10 Northern California Golf Association victories, was fourth at 74-71-68—213, followed by George McNeely of Carmel at 71-74-69—214, while Kevin Sze of Saratoga shot 72-72-72—216 to tie for sixth with Angelo Marco of San Francisco, who finished at 74-69-74—217.

Sean Etow of Irvine, who claimed the Monterey City in 2019, carded a score of 71-74-72—217 to tie for eighth with Cameron Henry of Los Gatos, who wound up at 69-74-74—217, while Kyle Quest of Fresno totaled 75-71-73—219 to tie for 10th with Billy Moon of East Garrison, who shot 74-71-74—219, and Alexander Iniakov of Prunedale, who came in at 73-69-77—219.

Randy Haag of Orinda captured the Senior Division, Joey Ferrari of Stockton won the Super Senior Division and Matt Brody of Dallas took the Net Division.
