CS Dominguez Hills repeats national title

Cal State Dominguez Hills captured the 30th PGA Minority Men’s Collegiate Golf Championship, winning for the second straight year by finishing 17 strokes ahead of Texas A&M International at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

The Toros posted a score of 304-306-291–901 to win the Division II crown, while Texas A&M International finished at 299-318-301–918.

“It was a very competitive tournament and we were trying to stay close to the lead over the first two rounds, and knew that the top four teams coming into today’s final round all had a chance to win,” Coach Ron Eastman of Cal State Dominguez Hills said.

“All in all, they all stepped up in their last round for the season and tied for our lowest round of the year at the right time.”
Livingston College was third at 305-314-305–924, followed by Fayetteville State at 308-301-330–939, Lincoln University at 319-321-305–945, and Miles College at 311-326-312–949.
Benedict College was seventh at 336-317-334–987, followed by Morehouse College at 326-333-329–988, Virginia Union at 342-340-336–1018 and Elizabeth City State at 358-343-333–1034.

Philip Harrison of Livingston claimed the individual title at 74-73-73–220, followed by Steven Martinez of Texas A&M International at 70-75-76–221, while Andrew Banuelos of Cal Sate Dominguez Hills shot 77-74-73–224 to tie for third with Stephen Washington of Livingston, who came in at 74-78-72–224.

Christopher Pham totaled 75-79-71–225 to tie for fifth with Cal State Dominguez Hills teammate Drew Dufresne, who finished at 76-77-72–225, and Jared Chinn of Fayetteville State, who wound up at 74-77-74–225.
Vitthal Parker of Miles College was eighth at 76-79-71–226, while Bret Gleason of Cal State Dominguez Hills shot 76-76-75–227 to tie for ninth with Benjamin Page of Texas A&M International, who finished at 75-79-73–227.

William Yang rounded out Cal State Dominguez Hills’ scoring at 85-83-77–245.
