Louisa Carlbom of San Jose State tied for the individual title and led the Spartans Women’s Golf Team to a six-stroke victory in the 20th Landfall Tradition on the Dye Course at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C.
The 11th-ranked Spartans, coached by Dana Dormann, claimed their second victory of the Fall Season after earlier winning the USF Invitational by posting a score of 278-284-280—842, 22-under-par, while second-ranked Wake Forest was second at 279-287-282—848.
No. 19 Florida State was third at 281-291-277—849, followed by fourth-ranked South Carolina, the defending champion, at 286-286-280—852, and No. 32 Central Florida at 284-296-287—867.
No. 46 Michigan State totaled 289-296-286—871 to tie for sixth with No. 51 North Carolina State, which finished at 285-289-297—871, while No. 34 Michigan was eighth at 286-295-291—872, followed by No. 36 Tennessee at 292-290-296—878, and No. 53 Purdue at 292-290-297—879.
Carlbom, a junior from Sweden who won the 2019 Johannesberg Ladies Open on the Swedish Golf Tour, carded a score of 67-70-69—206, 10-under, to tie for the individual title with Charlotte Heath of Florida State, who wound up at 66-72-68—206, while Justine Fournand of South Carolina was third at 67-71-70—208.
Heath and Carlbom set a new tournament scoring record.
Emilia Migliacco of Wake Forest finished at 68-73-68—209 to tie for fourth with Lottie Woad of Florida State, who shot 67-74-68—209, while Hannan Darling of South Carolina totaled 70-74-66—210 to tie for sixth with Rachel Kuehn of Wake Forest, who wound up at 66-73-71—210.
Valery Plata of Michigan State was eighth at 70-70-71—211, while Kajsa Arwefjall of San Jose State shot 70-71-71—212 to tie for ninth with Benedetta Moresco of Alabama, who finished at 74-66-72—212, and Sarah Edwards, also of Alabama, who came in at 71-69-72—212.
Rounding out the scoring for team champion San Jose State were Lucia Lopez-Ortega, who totaled 72-74-69—215 to wind up in a tie for 20th that included her Spartan teammate, Rebecca Gyllner, who finished at 72-72-71—215, while Antonia Malate tied for 25th at 69-71-76—216.
The Spartans will be off until the start of the Spring Season in February at the Therese Hession Regional Challenge at Palos Verdes Golf Club in Palos Verdes Estates.
