Michael Block of Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo and Brian Schippel of South County Golf Academy at Arroyo Trabuco made an eagle on the last hole to win the Southern California PGA Professional-Assistant Championship by one stroke on the Dinah Shore Course at Mission Hills Country Club http://www.clubcorp.com/Clubs/Mission-Hills-Country-Club in Rancho Mirage.
Block (pictured, left) who claimed the title for the second straight year, finished in the top10 with all five of his teams from Arroyo Trabuco.
Block and Schippel won with a score of 64-60—124, 12-under-par, while Block and Bobby Nickell of Arroyo Trabuco were second at 64-61—125.
Brian Smock and Mark Geddes of Coronado Golf Club were third at 61-66-127, followed by Block and Chris Lungo of Arroyo Trabuco at 67-61—128, and Block and David Sanges of Arroyo Trabuco at 67-62—129.
“It’s probably our favorite event of the year, for the guys in the golf shop,” said Block, who claimed the title last year with Nickell. “We all get to come out here, we had six of us from Arroyo Trabuco, and we had a blast.”
Added Schippel: “He goes so low on his own ball; it’s fun to pitch in here and there where I can.”
Derek Lane and Blair Harkins of Rolling Hills Country Club in Rolling Hills Estates totaled 67-63—130 to tie for sixth with Smock and Tim Parun of Coronado, who finished at 61-69—130.
Block and Ryan Olson of Arroyo Trabuco shot 69-62—131 to tie for eighth with Chris Frame and Kyle Mendoza of South Hills Country Club in West Covina, who wound up at 63-68—131, and Shane Ponchot and Lehua Wise of Hideaway Golf Club in La Quinta were 10th at 65-67—132.
