Arizona, Werbylo Share Titles in The Prestige

Trevor Werbylo of Arizona tied for the individual title with Jacob Skov Oleson of TCU and Ludvig Aberg of Texas Tech, and led the Wildcats to a share of the team championship with North Carolina in The Prestige on the Greg Norman Course at PGA West in La Quinta.

The Wildcats, who won the Arizona Invitational two weeks ago, have claimed multiple titles in the same season for the first time since 2006 after being invited to the tournament at the last minute.

“I don’t even know, to be honest with you,” Arizona Coach Jim Anderson said when asked what his team would have been doing if Oklahoma and Texas had not withdrawn because of concerns over the Covid-19 situation in California.

“So much of Covid is a little bit one step at a time. If this didn’t work, we did have a massive contingency plan to maybe try to host another tournament ourselves in our desert.”

Werbylo posted a score of 73-67-69—209, 4-under-par, while Olesen finished at 71-68-70—209, and Aberg wound up at 69-67-73—209.

Dylan Menante of Pepperdine shot 71-71-68—210 to tie for fourth with Ryan Burnett of

North Carolina, who totaled at 69-74-67—210 and Austin Hitt of North Carolina, who came in at 71-70-69—210.

Joey Vrzich of Pepperdine posted a score of 67-73-72—212 to tie for seventh with

David Puig of Arizona State, who finished at 64-74-74—212, while Chun An Yu of

Arizona State shot 71-73-69—213 to tie for ninth with Brad Reeves of Arizona, who finished at 72-70-71—213, and Lachlan Barker of Iowa State, who totaled 67-75-71—213.

Karl Vilips led Stanford at 69-76-69—214 in a tie for 12th that included Devon Bling of UCLA, who finished at 73-71-70, while Zihao Jin of San Diego State shot 69-74-72—215 to finish in a tie for 17th that included Finigan Tilly of Cal, who wound up at 71-71-73—215.

Hunter Epson of Long Beach State tied for 21st at 73-74-69—216, Jacob Westberg of UC Davis tied for 29th at 67-76-77—220, Leon D’Sousa tied for 36th at 73-73-72—218 and Austin Liu of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo tied for 53rd at 73-78-69—220,

Arizona carded a score of 283-280-285—848, while North Carolina wound up at 282-286-280—848.

Pepperdine was third at 281-279-289—849, followed by Arizona State at 276-287-291—854, SMU at 285-284-291—860, Stanford at 292-297-276—865, TCU at 289-288-289—866, Texas Tech at 293-281-295—869 and San Diego State at 290-293-287—870.

Long Beach State totaled 289-290-294—873 to tie for 10th with Oregon State, which finished at 291-286-296—873.

UC Davis was 13th at 287-304-284—875, USC was 14th at 287-299-291—877, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo tied for 15th at 291-301-287-879, Cal was 19th at 288-290-304—882, and UCLA was 24th at 299-302-295—896.
