Freshman Adam Anderson of Buena High in Ventura posted a brilliant round of 8-under-par 62 to claim the California Interscholastic Federation-Southern Section’s Northern Regional Championship by four strokes over Youseong Choi of Discovery in Anaheim and Taylor Cotti of Valencia at Los Robles Greens Golf Course in Thousand Oaks.
Anderson, the Pacific View League champion, said he wasn’t really surprised.
“Not really,” said Anderson, plays out of Saticoy Golf Regional Golf Club in Ventura. “I worked really hard in practice to get ready. I know what I can do. I was hyped on the inside and calm on the outside. I try to go out and enjoy myself. I want to have fun.
“I try to play like Tiger (Woods).”
Anderson collected nine birdies to go against a single bogey.
Choi and Cotti finished in a tie for second at 66, while Liam Green of Windward in Los Angeles totaled 67 to wind up in a tie for fourth with Gavin McCormick of Thousand Oaks and Ryan Toh of San Marino, while Eli Bernardo of Simi Valley shot 68 to tie for seventh with Lincoln Melcher of Burroughs in Burbank and Andrew Ryland of St. Bonaventure in Ventura.
Sahir Baylan of Simi Valley carded a score of 69 to tie for 10th with Campbell Ford of Harvard-Westlake in Los Angeles, Bryant Hernandez of San Marino, Kai Hirayama of Temple City, Nolan Kusyk of La Canada and Hank Norman of La Crescenta.
The top 20 players advanced to the CIF-SS Individual Championship on the Vineyard Course at River Ridge Golf Club in Oxnard on May 19.
