Group wants 2017 U.S. Women’s Open moved from Trump National

UltraViolet, a national women’s advocacy organization, claims that more than 100,000 people have signed a petition calling on the United States Golf Association and the LPGA Tour to move the 2017 U.S. Women’s Open from Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J.

The petition, which is addressed to CEO Mike Davis of the USGA and Commissioner Mike Whan of the LPGA Tour, claims that holding the tournament at Trump National will give millions of dollars in revenue, free advertising and branding to President Donald Trump, whom UltraViolet labels as a misogynist, racist and serial sexual predator.

“Golf is a sport that carries a long history of sexism, racism and mistreatment of those with disabilities,” said Shaunna Thomas, co-founder of UltraViolet. “Up until 1961, people of color were banned from participating in the PGA Tour–and the sport once banned Casey Martin, born with a leg birth defect, from using a golf cart.

“That’s why it is so upsetting to see the USGA and LPGA continue to associate the sport with a racist, serial sexual abuser, who mocks people with disabilities. The USGA and LPGA need to send a clear signal to young golfers, including women, people of color and people with disabilities that it stands for inclusiveness–and move the upcoming U.S. Women’s Open from Trump National Golf Course.”

U.S. Senators Bob Casey (D-Pa.), Edward Markey (D-Mass.) and Dick Blumenthal (D-Conn.) sent a letter to Davis late last year asking that the tournament be moved because of comments Trump made during the Presidential campaign, but the USGA and LPGA Tour have not budged.

The PGA Tour, under pressure, canceled the 2015 Grand Slam of Golf, which was scheduled for Trump National Golf Club–Los Angeles.

The Tour also moved the WGC-Cadillac Championship from the Blue Monster Course at Trump National Doral in Miami to Club de Golf Chapultepec in Mexico City, where it will be played this week.

The 2017 U.S. Women’s Open Tournament is scheduled for July 13-16.

You should leave the venue as it is and not run the risk of loosing what little viewers you have!

  • February 28, 2017 at 10:26 am

    Get a life people.

  • February 28, 2017 at 10:28 am

I will end my USGA membership if this happens. I am not sure what everyone things the President has done to have this done.

  • February 28, 2017 at 10:32 am

Do not fall into the trap of being political. Sports and especially golf does not need to be the brunt of political activists. You will do well and maybe better to ignor this womens group. They are left wing radicals and do not represent the feelings of the majority. The LPGA needs to put themselves above this crap and in the end what are you achieving if you succum to this , more unemployment hurting the very people that want and need the work that the golf course provides. I am neither a trump supporter or an American but Trump has done nothing to deserve this type of bias and sports should not be political

  • February 28, 2017 at 10:33 am

Radical feminists who are miserable and want everyone around them just as miserable.
Go do something positive with you lives, instead of pushing your agenda on golf fans, who love the game, which most of tbese Fems havee never played.

  • February 28, 2017 at 10:36 am

Ok all you cream puff and B’S artists. Get over your ranting. The President of the United States is Mr. DONALD TRUMP. He owns golf courses. Get over yourselves and go to work. Help the country out. Grow up. Man up. Women up. This stuff is getting to be so much nonsense.

  • February 28, 2017 at 10:40 am

  • February 28, 2017 at 10:42 am

The LPGA and PGA tours should be ashamed that they would give into this false and disturbing allegations regarding Mr. Trump. If you make golf a political statement then I fo one will stop watching and supporting. You are giving into these radical groups that say anything they want and you bend. The people who can afford to golf and love the game are not socialists winers and would not distribute false information about Trump. He is not a racist, sexuall abuser and does not mock disabled people. He is doing more for your country than the past three or four presidents and while I am not an American I wish Trump was our Prime Minister and he is already making a difference around the world. Wake up. One of golfs biggest supporters should not be demonized to fill political ambitions.. Beware

  • February 28, 2017 at 10:43 am

I will withdraw my membership from the USGA if they pull out of the 2017 Open. Trump is our President and we need to respect the Office and him.

  • February 28, 2017 at 10:47 am

Ridiculous! Get over it. Donald Trump was a high profile figure all his life and never had any of these accusations until he ran for office. The left has a personal vendetta against the president and they will lie, cheat, and steal to get there way. Hold the tournament as planned.

  • February 28, 2017 at 10:50 am

    I support you!!!
    I will sign your petition.

  • February 28, 2017 at 10:50 am

Time for golf stand up, play golf and to stay out of politics

  • February 28, 2017 at 10:52 am

Please do not give in to the Liberal haters!

  • February 28, 2017 at 10:54 am

Leave the politics out of this great sport of competition. This organization (Ultraviolet) needs to get their facts and history correct. The name on this great golf course has absolutely nothing to do with the charitable contributions supported. Do something positive with your life and let your great country heal and become great again.

    A concerned Canadian Veteran

  • February 28, 2017 at 10:55 am

This is absolutely absurd! They are slamming the President and all the people who voted for him.

  • February 28, 2017 at 10:59 am

Please please please…,keep politics out of golf. It is the only entertainment left to avoid the political drama of every group demanding their way or they will protest. For every 100,00 signatures to protest there will be 100,000 to demand the opposite. You cannot please everyone… it is, I cannot watch the oscars, the talk shows, the late night comedy shows…instead of fun laughter it is now nothing but negative political humor….all aimed at destroying Trump, our President….like him or not. In my opinion the LPGA has enough problem with interest…..and acquesing to one group over another will be very problematic for golf.

  • February 28, 2017 at 10:59 am

What does this group have to do with the LPGA and its decisions?

If you think all of the sponsors are completely in line with your delusional ideas you are deceived.

You see what happened to the left and their blind ambition for power. You lost! Your loosing. You will loose!

Mike Wand do not underestimate the power of your tours fans. We control the purse and can easily make a financial impact on the tour.

    P. S. Ultra Violent, stay out of golf and its decisions. I would say let the players decide. If they decide on politics it will be to their own demise. Take a note from Hollywood. We are sick and tired of you all trying to hijack our freedoms.

The removal of Trumps venue at Doral, a 56 year old tradition on the PGA tour is a huge mistake. I will not watch this weekend and will encourage my golf groups to do the same.

I am a Man and I am a huge supporter of the LPGA, and woman kind.

  • February 28, 2017 at 10:59 am

Please do not hold any professional golf tournaments at any Trump golf course ever, including this years USGA and LPGA tournaments. The US Women’s Open should not support sexism at any major sporting event. It sends the wrong message to young girls, women and minorities to support a man that speaks badly against women, Latinos, Muslims and the disabled.

  • February 28, 2017 at 11:01 am

You’ve got to be kidding! Is there any aspect of our lives that can’t be affected by politics! Leave this alone. I am furious the USGA caved and moved the WGC-Cadillac Championship from Trump National Doral to Mexico City. Here’s a message to the USGA, “For every whiney cry baby that comes along from the UltraViolet group, there’s plenty more women that quietly way out number them in opposition and just want to play golf and support Trump. What about all of us that don’t protest and don’t make idiots of ourselves by throwing a fit. Mr. Davis, you represent us as well. we’re golfers too. Just because we have a little more class doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be heard. Stop caving in to these protestors. Just run the Golf Association and stay out of politics!!!!

  • February 28, 2017 at 11:04 am

I will no longer support the LPGA if this happens. This is just another way for the liberals to degrade OUR president.

  • February 28, 2017 at 11:07 am

These liberal organizations have lost their mind! Get some perspective people and quit jumping on a bandwagon that exaggerates the truth of what actually was said and or done. Give President Trump a break just as you would someone from your political persuasion. Enough is enough!!!

  • February 28, 2017 at 11:19 am

This group is not what they claim to be. They are anti-Republican and their entire website is devoted to attacking Republicans and moderate to conservative policies. The USGA cannot seriously consider any request by this group. If it does members will likely leave the USGA in droves.

  • February 28, 2017 at 11:25 am

Are you anti-Trump folks nuts? Don’t taint the wonderful game of golf with your political agendas and garbage! My guess is that many of the anti-Trump protesters have never played the game. Leave it alone and go protest at your local waste disposal area. That’s where you and your ideologies belong. Additionally, don’t get sucked into that climate change hoax. We Canadians are paying an absolutely useless carbon tax!

  • February 28, 2017 at 11:38 am

Girls, you barely have an audience and if it wasn’t for the Golf Channel, you would become extinct. If you don’t like our President, then don’t sign up for the tournament at his course. There will plenty of lady golfers that will take your place.

  • February 28, 2017 at 11:47 am

I am so tired of so many people today who believe they know all and expect everyone to agree with them. The world may be changing but we still have some values that need to be respected. My father lived by the golden rule that you treat others as you wish to be treated. No one today deserves anything unless they have worked for it. President Trump may not have the same views or values that you have, but he has worked to become our President and he deserves to be respected. If the decision is made to change venues for the LPGA tournament it just confirmed my belief that today my fathers values ne longer exist. The my generation has prevailed.

  • February 28, 2017 at 11:50 am

So… No problem playing in Dubai, Mexica et al but the President of the US is out of bounds???? Ridiculous. Audios USG.A and Women’s golf. I can live quiet well without either.

Life is not politics: get a life and leave sports alone.

  • February 28, 2017 at 12:01 pm

As a parent of a young female junior golfer, I find this disgraceful. If the governing body of the PGA and USGA are more focused on politics and cow-towing to sponsors with political agendas, I’d find it hard to support the sport as I currently do or have my child continue to compete in it. Let the politicians and reporters make fools of themselves and keep golf focused on the game. We need to stay focused on making events fun to watch, and fun to play in. As for politics, we get our chance to make our opinions known at the polls. We voted for Trump! I support our President! I’d hate to see golf viewed by mainstream American in the same light as short sighted athletes like Colan Kaepernick.

  • February 28, 2017 at 12:02 pm

I guarantee that this “women’s advocacy organization” hasn’t made even one negative statement nor lifted one finger of energy towards a world religion that gives women chattel status. I don’t see the LPGA nor the PGA staying away from those countries that sponsor tournaments.

  • February 28, 2017 at 12:03 pm

  • February 28, 2017 at 12:05 pm

This is dangerous that one group of women that claim to represent all women can push around the USGA.
This is sad that these folks and people like them can dictate how to run USGA or anything because they are upset about what someone said. I think people are getting fed up from all this.

  • February 28, 2017 at 12:07 pm

I will also cancel my membership if this happens

  • February 28, 2017 at 12:22 pm

Move this or any other tournament at a TRUMP Course, and I will cancel my USGA membership, and tear up my tickets to this event. And I know how to turn off golf on my cable TV.

This is so biased, hateful, and nasty and political B.S. that if you do, you all can join the NFL FOR CRAPPING on your everyday Patriotic American golfers and members.. We don’t need you, you need us, so don’t let the hateful, nasty extremist leftist screw it up.

  • February 28, 2017 at 12:36 pm

Really! Don’t let the great game of golf be tainted and ruined by the left wing cupcakes. Keep politics out of golf. Watching the LPGA will become like the Oscars, no one will really care.

  • February 28, 2017 at 12:39 pm

Well the move to Mexico instead of Doral is hurting WHO?
The tour pros go wherever the money is but just think of how this one decision affected the people in Miami. (United States of Americe more specifically.) So I will not watch this weekend and hope your ratings start to mirror those of the NFL. Perhaps then you gentlemen will realize the aly-left radicals only care about hurting people. They do these petitions but espouse love. Give me a break. Our president does not deserve this.

  • February 28, 2017 at 1:23 pm

President Trump was elected by Americans, not women’s libbers.

    He will represent “America First!”

The night he won, I told my wife: “Get out of Dodge, Obama, there is a new sheriff in town!”

  • February 28, 2017 at 1:27 pm

I will indeed cancel my membership to USGA AS WELL.
    Stop this silly BS.

  • February 28, 2017 at 1:33 pm

Someone, anyone, please inform Soros and Obama that paying for protesters and petition signers that they need to join the USA not subvert it whenever they can.

  • February 28, 2017 at 1:57 pm

I will resign my lifetime USGA membership if this happens. He is pro-women! Not like Kennedy and Clinton!

  • February 28, 2017 at 2:46 pm

How many of them do you think support the LPGA or USGA with membership dues?
Well, I have since 1963, but will STOP if you continue to allow “Political Correctness” to influence the USGA and the game of golf!

  • February 28, 2017 at 2:52 pm

Most rational people are sick to death of everything being politicized. Funny there was nothing to bitch about w/playing those courses until DJT became President. If the LPGA and USGA give in to this kind of hatred, I’ll not only be disappointed but will no longer support them in any way. Quit it! Stay in CA, you silly wenches, and leave the rest of us alone!

  • February 28, 2017 at 3:08 pm

The PGA tour supported the Clinton foundation, (Palm Springs). Proven to be a corrupt organization. But elected to move the WGC from a Trump course. Stay out of politics completely.
I will not watch Any tournament moved for political reasons.
I go to Maui every year to attend the tournament of champions. I will definitely not participate, or watch any tournament that combines LPGA & PGA players.
    Enough political correctness, enough politics.
It’s not the PGA’s responsibility to save the dying LPGA.

  • February 28, 2017 at 3:26 pm

I suggest golf fans boycott the LPGA and USGA if they move this event. Their actuations are unfounded and or nothing but a political ploy. Play golf and appreciate a great golf course would welcome you .les

  • February 28, 2017 at 4:11 pm

If this foolishness happens, I Will revoke my USGA membership, stop my subscriptions to all golf related magazines, totally stop watching the LPGA all together and stop supporting any company that supports the LPGA!

  • February 28, 2017 at 4:45 pm

I am with several others who support play at Trump National and other Trump courses. Would the liberals quit whining and just try to support the POTUS with a little more respect. If you don’t like how your 401K has skyrocketed because of President Trump, please give it to the refugees who you want to come in to the country and stay at your house.

  • February 28, 2017 at 4:50 pm

As my wife and I have left the movie industry because of this ridiculous diatribe called political dissent, we will also leave the USGA if they seriously consider this crap!

The people of this great country have spoken so you screaming liberals who accomplished nothing for the last 20+ years need to man/women/? up and support someone (your President) that is trying to re-establish this country as the world power it should be!

  • February 28, 2017 at 8:25 pm

If the USGA or the LPGA cave to this small cabal of quasi political wannabes, this will be the last time I contribute to or support the USGA. Politics has no place in golf. I have belonged to private clubs in the US and overseas, and, at least the British clubs aren’t this foolish. Stop trying to appeal to this group who knows nothing about golf, and are only interested in making a political statement to the detriment of the game. The fact that the USGA would even consider this group’s request tells me that it is time to consider the replacement of the top management of the USGA with better qualified individuals. Davis is either foolish or becoming senile.

  • March 1, 2017 at 4:07 am

I will already not watch the WGC that was moved from a Trump course that was a great venue and will contact the sponsors to no longer support this event. If the USGA does this, I will do the same for the US Women’s Open and will no longer support the USGA.

  • March 1, 2017 at 11:18 am

Give me a break! I’m so sick of small time radical liberals having temper tantrums! Please do not cave in to these whiners who don’t even have their facts straight about our President. Being a female golfer who loves the game, I resent these groups speaking on behalf of all women. This radical behavior and bullying needs to be ignored. Politics do not belong in the game of golf. Leave the venue as is!
