Zhang, Jin Take Top SCPGA Junior Awards

Rose Zhang of Irvine, who earlier was named American Junior Golf Association Junior Player of the Year added to her haul at the Southern California PGA Junior Tour’s 2019 Banquet of Champions at Miles Suare Golf Course in Fountain Valley.

The 16-year-old Zhang (pictured), who repeated her victory in the Swinging Skirts AJGA Invitational and won the Toyota Junior World Cup, earned the Curtis Cup Award and was named to the SCPGA Junior Tour’s All-Southern California Team at the banquet.

Zhang, a three-time ACJA First Team All-American who has made a verbal commitment to attend Stanford, also helped the United State Team win at the PING Junior Solheim Cup in Scotland.

Bo Jin of Encinitas, who has committed to Oklahoma State, duplicated Zhang’s accomplishments on the Boys side, being named the Curtis Cup Award-winner and being selected to the SCPGA Junior Tour’s All-Southern California Team.

Jin, 17, finished second in the AJGA Junior Players Championship and the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship in 2019.

Ethan Chung of Murrieta, a USC commit who won the Toyota Junior Tour Cup Championship, the Corey Pavin Invitational and the TTC Invitational at Bear Creek, was named Toyota Cup Boys Player of the Year and also landed a spot on the SCPGA All-Southern California Team.

Karen Tsuru of Carlsbad, who is only 13, was named the Toyota Cup Girls Player of the Year after winning seven times on the circuit in 2019, and also made the SCPGA All-Southern California Girls Team.

Sihao Cong of Irvine was second in the Boys Player of the Year standings and Kyle An of Aliso Viejo finished third.

Kylee Choi of South Pasadena finished second in the Girls Player of the Year standings and Jasmine Koo of Cerritos was third.

Baron Nguyen of Fountain Valley claimed the Lou Bastanchury Award, while the Amy Alcott Award went to Alice Zhao of Irvine.

Darien Zhao of San Diego was honored with the Howard Smith Award for Boys, and Tsuru took home the Girls Award.

Luke Potter of Encinitas won the Ralph Miller Award for Boys and the Girls honor went to Amari Avery of Riverside.

The Foundation Award for Boys went to Surapat Chokprajakchat of Anaheim, while the Girls prize went to Nicole Neale of Dove Canyon.

Also making the SCPGA Boys All-Southern California Team were Potter, Alexander Yang of Carlsbad, Taehoon Song of Lakewood and Andi Xu of San Diego.

Others on the SCPGA Girls All-Southern California Team were Avery, Brianna Navarrosa of San Diego, Zoe Campos of Valencia and Catherine Park of Irvine.

Bear Creek Golf Club in Murrieta was honored with the SCPGA Junior Tour Club Award.
