Angel Yin of Arcadia, Calif., Mika Liu of Beverly Hills, Calif., and Megan Khang of Rockland, Mass., have been selected to represent the United States in the inaugural World Junior Girls’ Team Championship.
The event will be played Sept. 26-Oct. 1 at Angus Glen Golf Club in Markham, Ontario, Canada.
“Megan, Mika and Angel will no doubt serve as fine representatives of the United States, and we wish them the best as they become the first USA competitors in this exciting event,” said Daniel B. Burton, USGA vice president and chairman of the International Team Selection Committee.
The 15-year-old Yin (pictured), a two-time California Women’s Amateur champion who is sophomore at Arcadia High, is No. 4 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Junior Rankings and was stroke-play medalist at the 2014 U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship.
Khang, No. 5 in the rankings, won the 2012 and 2013 Connecticut Women’s Open Championships, in addition to the 2013 PING Invitational, and was second in the 2014 Annika Invitational, the 2013 Junior Orange Bowl and Scott Robertson Memorial.
Liu, No. 28 in the rankings, had a breakthrough summer this year, winning the Women’s Western Amateur and the Southern Amateur Championship. She also has posted runner-up finishes at the 2013 Harder Hall Invitational, the Ione D. Jones/Doherty Championship and Scott Robertson Memorial.
The 72-hole stroke play competition pits three-player teams from 15 countries.
