Nokes claims SoCal PGA Senior title

Mike Nokes of Stadium Golf Center in San Diego claimed the Southern California Senior PGA Professional Championship by two strokes over Chris Starkjohann, the defending champion, at El Camino Country Club in Oceanside.

Nokes posted a score of 69-68–137, seven-under par, while Starkjohann, of Torrey Pines Golf Club and Outings in LaJolla, finished at 67-72–139.

Jim Higgins Navy Golf Club in Cypress shot 73-67–140 and tied for third with Mike Miles of Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach, who came in at 70-70–140.

David Podas Bel-Air Country Club was fifth at 72-69–141, followed by Barry Clayton of Westin Mission Hills, who totaled 67-75–142, and Scott Mahlberg of Stadium Golf Center, who finished at 68-76–144.

Gary Sowinski of The Hodges Golf Learning Center in Escondido, shot 75-70–145 and tied for eighth with Kurt Donahoo of TaylorMade, who wound up at 77-68–145, and Mike Mitchell of Hideaway Golf Club in La Quinta, who shot 72-73–145.

All 10 qualified for the 2014 Senior PGA Professional National Championship on Nov. 13-16 at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
