Xu Wins SCGA Women’s Am by 5 Shots

Kelly Xu of Claremont captured the Southern California Golf Association Women’s Amateur Championship by five strokes over Angelina Kim of Los Angeles at Mesa Verde Country Club in Costa Mesa.

The 17-year-old Xu, who will be a senior at Claremont High, posted a score of 69-68-70—207, 6-under-par, while Kim finished at 72-71-69—212. They were the only players in the field who finished under par.

“I’m so humbled, every SCGA event has been so amazing, and to have my name up there alongside so many other great names is just incomprehensible for me right now,” said Xu, the 2020 SCGA Junior Girls champion who has committed to Stanford.

Katherine Muzi of Newport Beach and USC shot 72-71-70—213 to tie for third with Sophie Guo of Irvine, who finished at 69-74-70—213, and Brooke Seay of San Diego and Stanford, who wound up at 71-71-71—213.

Camille Boyd of Yorba Linda totaled 72-74-70—216 to tie for sixth with Zoe Campos of Valencia, who finished at 72-74-70—216, Kailie Vongsaga of Diamond Bar, who wound up at 75-68-73—216, and Janae Leovao of Oceanside, who came in at 73-68-75—216, while Ashleigh Park of Irvine, who came in at 73-71-73—217.

Previous SCGA Women’s Amateur champions include Andrea Lee twice, Jaime Jacob,
Alyaa Abdulghany, Alexa Milton and Lilia Vu.
