Xiong’s 4th win of season sets Oregon record

Norman Xiong set an Oregon record with his fourth victory of the season and defending national champion Oklahoma captured the team title in The Goodwin at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco.

Xiong, a sophomore from Canyon Lake, Calif., also tied the Ducks’ record with his fifth career victory, posting a score of 65-65-68—198, 15-under par, while Jeffrey Swegle of Stanford was second at 63-71-70—204, followed by Sebastian Crampton of California at 71-66-68—205 and Sam Triplett of Northwestern at 66-70-70—206.

“Norman was simply sensational,” Oregon Coach Casey Martin said of Xiong, who won the Duck Invitational earlier in the week. “He blew away a great field and I was so proud of him.”

Brad Dalke of Oklahoma shot 69-66-72—207 to tie for fifth with Collin Morikawa of Cal, who finished at 66-69-72—207, while Grant Hirschman of Oklahoma totaled 75-67-66—208 to tie for seventh with Jack Trent of UNLV, who wound up at 74-67-67—208, and Blaine Hale of Oklahoma, who came in at 67-69-72—208.

Isaiah Salinda of Stanford carded a score of 72-70-67—209 to tie for 10th with Shawn Lu of Oregon State, who finished at 73-65-71—209 and Daniel O’Loughlin of Colorado, who wound up at 73-66-70—209, and Quade Cummins of Oklahoma, who shot 72-67-70—209.

Soren Lind led San Francisco in a tie for 15th at 72-69-70—211, and Perry Cohen of St. Mary’s totaled 70-70-72—212 to finish in a tie for 20th that included Jimmy Castles of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, who shot 70-72-70—212.

Sean Yu of San Jose State tied for 32nd at 71-69-74—214, Kaito Onishi of USC tied for 47th at 74-73-70—217 and Dexter Simonds of Sonoma State tied for 65th at 69-74-76—219.

Oklahoma recorded a winning score of 279-269-280—828, 24-under-par, followed by Cal at 282-271-278—831, Stanford at 277-283-276—836, Oregon at 279-279-284—842 and UNLV at 282-279-288—849.

Northwestern finished at 278-290-285—853 to tie for sixth with Colorado, which wound up at 287-278-288—853, while Arizona State was eighth at 292- 276-288—856, followed by BYU at 289-285-285—859 and San Francisco at 291-282-287—860.

St. Mary’s was 11th at 283-289-289—861, San Jose State was 15th at 290-290- 288—868, USC was 18th at 297-288-289—874, and the Stanford B team tied for 21st at 287-299-301—887.

UC Davis totaled 291-296-301—888 to tie for 23rd with Cal Poly, which finished at 292-297-299—888, and Sonoma State was 30th at 292-307-307— 906.
