Cheyenne Woods birdied four of the last five holes to shoot 2-under-par 71 and take a one-stroke lead over Stacy Lee Bregman of South Africa into the final round of the Volvik RACV Ladies Masters at Royal Pines Resort in Queensland, Australia.
The 23-year-old niece of Tiger Woods, who is seeking her first victory on the Ladies European Tour, needed the strong finish in an up-and-down round that included seven birdies and five bogeys.
“I’m proud with how I was able to fight through today,” she Woods, a graduate of Wake Forest whose only pro victory came in a 2012 SunCoast Ladies Series event at LPGA International Golf Club in Daytona Beach, Fla. “Tomorrow’s just going to be another day to get through.
“It would be a huge accomplishment (to win). Playing well this week, I’m already happy with how it’s been going, but to have that win would just be the cherry on top. Especially to start out my year.”
Bregman, coming off a bogey-free 67, birdied the last hole to finish at 72 and stay on Woods’ heels.
Minjee Lee, 17, the Australian women’s amateur champion, posted a 69 and was third, two strokes back.
Camilla Lennarth of Sweden posted a 72 and was tied for fourth, three shots back, with Trish Johnson of England.
Jessica Korda, the first-round leader who won the Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic in her last start, struggled for the second straight day and was tied for 11th after a 74.
