THE DEVELOPMENT
Altozano is an upscale, highly-secure, gated golf community with homes and lots that flank a challenging 18-hole layout designed by Lorena Ochoa’s lifelong coach, Rafael Alarcon. Many of the lots are nestled near small lakes and ponds and many have dramatic canyon views with Volcan de Fuego in the distant background. Amenities include a modern clubhouse, lap pool, gym, men’s and women’s locker rooms, tennis and paddle tennis, driving range and short game facility.
THE LOCATION
Colima is a small, provincial state with Old World charm but not lacking in modern conveniences. Walmart and Starbucks have several locations and Amazon serves the area, as well. Many of the older streets run under massive tree canopies and the downtown area reminds one of a quaint, beautiful village in Spain. The weather is generally around 80 degrees with afternoon rain in summer and a California-style dry climate with a bit more humidity the rest of the year.
THE DEAL
Because Colima is located more than 75 kilometers from the ocean, foreigners can hold title without the need of the bank trust. Lots can be purchased to build your custom home at prices not seen in California since the early 1990’s. Most expenses of daily living are at bargain prices also. Dinner at a nice restaurant rarely tops $50 and domestic help is very affordable. Having some prior knowledge of Spanish is helpful but certainly not required. The Mexican people are warm and welcoming all over the country and Colima is certainly no exception.
