Defending champion Kevin Velo of Danville pulled away to win the San Jose City Championship by four strokes over Shane Muldowney of Carlsbad and Finigan Tilly of San Carlos at Santa Theresa Golf Club.
Velo, a senior at San Jose State, was tied for the lead with Muldowney at the start of the final round but carded three birdies on the first five holes to pull away and finished with a score of 66-67—133, 9-under-par.
Muldowney, a sophomore at UC Davis, wound up at 66-71—137, while Tilly, a junior at Cal, birdied his first three holes in the final round but was derailed by a double-bogey 7 at No. 17 and wound up at 69-68—137.
Daniel Kim of San Jose was fourth at 68-70—138, followed by Joseph Yagmourian of Sunnyvale at 67-72—139, while Jason Chen of San Jose shot 68-73—141 to tie for sixth with David Staszko, also of San Jose, who finished at 71-70—141.
Brian Ma of San Jose, who captured the 2017 San Francisco City Championship, totaled 69-73—142 to tie for eighth with Alexander Barclay of Pleasanton who wound up at 72-70—142, Brent Booth of Los Altos, who shot 69-73—142, and Kevin Noto of Gilroy, who came in at 68-74—142.
