USC Women Repeat as Pac-12 Champs

USC led virtually from wire-to-wire to capture its second straight Pacific 12 Conference Women’s Golf Championship, and Rachel Heck of Stanford took home the individual title on the Stanford Golf Course in Palo Alto.

The Trojans, who won the title in 2019 and were unable to defend last year because of the Coronavirus pandemic, claimed their eighth conference championship with at score of 283-287-279—849, 3-under-par, followed by Stanford at 289-286-279—854, Arizona State at 291-283-286—860 and Arizona at 291-285-285—861.

“I’m so happy for this group to be rewarded with a Pac-12 Championship,” said USC Coach Justin Silverstein, whose team won for the fifth time this season. “This golf course provided an extremely tough and intense test and we were able to survive by playing really smart and disciplined golf.”

USC will play next in a yet to be announced NCAA Regional.
UCLA totaled 291-290-294—875 to tie for fifth with Oregon, which finished at 297-295-283—875, while Colorado was seventh at 302-298-287—887, followed by Oregon State at 305-303-288—896, Washington at 303-300-294—897 and California at 296-313-301—910.

Heck, a freshman from Memphis, Tenn., claimed the individual title and her third victory of the season with a score of 68-69-69—206, followed by Amelia Garvey of USC at 67-72-69—208, while Malia Nam of USC shot 68-72-69—209 to tie for third with YuSang Hou of Arizona, who finished at 71-68-70—209.

The last Stanford player to claim the conference title was Mhairi McKay in 1997.

Linn Grant of Arizona State carded a score of 73-69-68—210 to tie for fifth with Briana Chacon of Oregon, who wound up at 71-71-68—210, while Angelina Ye of Stanford totaled 71-74-67—212 to tie for seventh with Annabel Wilson of UCLA, who finished at 74-70-68—212.

Amanda Linner of Arizona State was ninth at 67-71-75—213, while Emma Spitz of UCLA shot 68-68-78—214 to tie for 10th with Vivian Hou of Arizona, who came in at 72-71-71—214.

Katherine Zhu led Cal in a tie for 25th at 71-78-75—224.

Rounding out the scoring for team champion USC were Alyaa Abdulghany in solo 12th at 73-74-70—217, Allisen Corpuz in a tie for 15th at 75-74-71—220, and Brianna Navarrosa in a tie for 20th at 80-69-73—222.
