Host UC Davis beat St. Mary’s on the first playoff hole to claim the team championship and Matthew Sutherland of Fresno State took home the individual title in the El Macero Classic at El Macero Country Club in El Macero.
The Aggies posted a score of 282-285-281—848, 16-under-par, and St. Mary’s wound up at 278-288-282—848, while San Francisco was third at 285-277-288—850, followed by Fresno State at 290-277-284—851 and Santa Clara at 293-283-282—858.
UC Davis won its own tournament for the third time, but the first since claiming back-to-back titles in 2014-15. The Aggies last victory anywhere came at The Goodwin in 2016.
Long Beach State was sixth at 292-284-284—860, while Pacific totaled 284-299-285—868 to tie for seventh with Idaho, which wound up at 295-283-290—868, and Loyola Marymount finished ninth at 298-285-289—872, followed by Cal State Fullerton at 293-289-293—875.
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo was 12th at 296-294-294—884, followed by Sacramento State at 310-294-283—887.
Sutherland, a Fresno State sophomore from Sacramento, claimed his first college title with a tournament record score of 68-66-69—203, 13-under, followed by Matt McCarty of Santa Clara at 70-68-67—205, Tommy Stephenson of Fresno State at 73-65-70—208, while Thomas Hutchison of UC Davis shot 72-69-68—209 to tie for fourth with Jose Suryadinata of Idaho, who finished at 74-67-68—209.
Jacob Westberg of UC Davis carded a score of 69-73-68—210 to tie for sixth with Tim Widing of San Francisco, who wound up at 72-68-70—210, while Riley Lewis of Loyola Marymount totaled 73-71-67—211 to tie for eighth with Hunter Epson of Long Beach State finished at 73-68-70—211.
Clay Seeber of Long Beach State shot 72-72-68—212 to tie for 10th with Alejandro Nava of UC Davis, who wound up at 69-71-72—212, and Ethan Farnam of St. Mary’s, who came in at 65-72-75—212.
Luke Adam led Cal Poly SLO in a tie for 18th at 74-72-69—215, Garrett Boe of Cal State Fullerton tied for 21st at 72-76-68—216, while Leonardo Rigamonti of Pacific shot 72-77-69—218 to finish in a tie for 27th that included his Tigers teammate Riley Killip, who wound up at 71-76-71—218, while Ethan Davidson of Sacramento State tied for 39th at 77-75-69—221.
