Tsuru, Chung Claim Toyota Tour Cup Titles

Karen Tsuru of Carlsbad sank a six-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to claim the Girls Division of the 2019 Toyota Tour Cup Championship on the Stadium Course at PGA West www.pgawest.com/stadium-course in La Quinta.

Ethan Chung of Murrieta, who blew the lead in the Boys Division by hitting his tee shot into the water in the 18th hole, drained an 11-foot putt for par on the second playoff hole to capture the Boys Championship.

The tournament is part of the Southern California PGA’s Junior Tour.

Tsuru (pictured left) holed a 30-foot par putt on the final hole of regulation to finish at 70-67—140, 7-under-par, playing bogey-free in the final round to finish in tie for first with Madison Le of Garden Grove, who wound up at 69-68—137.

Le, who also played bogey-free in the final round, missed the green on the playoff hole before Tsura holed her clutch putt and claimed her seventh Toyota Tour Cup title of the 2019 season.

Anna Davis of Spring Valley finished third 68-73—141, followed by Ashley Kim of Victorville at 72-73—145, Dianna Lee of San Diego at 74-72-146 and Frances Kim of Rolling Hills Estates at 74-73—147.

Meghan Royal of Carlsbad shot 73-75—148 to tie for seventh with Crista Izuzquiza of Coronado, who wound up at 72-76—148, while Kylee Choi of South Pasadena totaled 75-74—149 to tie for ninth with Yurang Li of Fullerton, who came in at 72-71—149.

Chung (pictured right), who has committed to USC, carded a score of 67-73—140 to finish in a tie for first with Kyle An of Aliso Viejo, who finished at 70-70—140, and Calder Overfelt of Newport Beach, who wound up at 69-71—140.

Chung and An made pars on the first extra hole, where Overfelt was eliminated by make bogey, and Chung claimed the title with his clutch putt on the second playoff hole.

Darien Zhao of San Diego shot 68-73—141 to tie for fourth Jonas Appel of Encinitas, who finished at 69-72—141.

Dylan Oyama of Carlsbad totaled 68-74—142 to tie sixth with Caden McMackin of Laguna Beach, who finished at 69-73—142, Cutter Ayres of Visalia, who wound up at 70-72—142, and Johnny Walker of Chandler, Ariz., who also came in at 70-72—142, while Taehoon Song of Lakewood was 10th at 70-73—143.
