Tringale aces the Open, sort of

Cameron Tringale of Laguna Niguel was practicing for the U.S. Open at Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Place, Wash., on Tuesday when he reached the 227-yard, par-3 ninth hole.

The 28-year-old Tringale hit his tee shot into a greenside bunker and since it was a practice round, he teed up another ball.

This time, the ball hit the green and rolled about 40 feet before disappearing into the hole.

“I didn’t know what to feel because I had already hit one,” said Tringale, who has finished second on the PGA Tour twice but never won. “So does it really count (as a hole in one) or not? It was one of those, like as it was happening, that’s what I was kind of thinking about. But very cool, nonetheless.

“I’ve only had one before today, before this one. So it’s always something to see that ball disappear with a long club in your hand. There were plenty of people up there to celebrate it. And it was pretty cool.”

However, by golf rules, it was not an ace.
