Sahith Theegala of Pepperdine, who already has claimed the Haskins Award as the best college golfer in the nation this season, is one of five finalists for the Division I Jack Nicklaus Player of the Year Award presented by Golf.com as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Thursday.
Theegala, a senior from Chino Hills, also has received All-West Coast Conference, All-West Region and All-American honors, and is a finalist for the Ben Hogan Award for this season, which was cut short by the Coronavirus pandemic.
The other Division I nominees are John Augenstein of Vanderbilt, Cooper Dossey of Baylor, Garett Reband of Oklahoma and Davis Thompson of Georgia.
The winner of the Division I Nicklaus Award will receive an exemption into the 2021 Memorial Tournament, hosted by Jack Nicklaus at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio.
Division II nominees are Elis Svard of Cal State Monterey Bay, Dan Bradbury of Lincoln Memorial, Vincent Norrman of Georgia Southwestern, Max O’Hagan of Florida Tech and Zach Zediker of Delta State.
Nominated for the Division III Nicklaus Award are Emmet Herb of St. Thomas (Minnesota), Jason Li of Carnegie Melon. Drew Mathers of Huntingdon, Cade Osgood of Southwestern (Texas) and Rob Wuethrich of Illinois Wesleyan.
National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics nominees are Noah Hofman of Ottawa (Arizona), Carl Didrik Meen Fosaas of Keiser, Ben Rebne of Dalton State, Eli Scott of Coastal Carolina and Eric Wowar of Point.
The National Junior College Athletic Association nominees are Charlie Crockett of Hutchinson, Trey Fessler of Mesa, Jon Hopkins of Mississippi Gulf Coast, Tom Matthews of Eastern Florida State, Jacob Skov Oleseon of Ranger and Gabriel Salvanera of South Mountain.
Winners will be announced at the PGA Tour’s Memorial Tournament, which is scheduled to be played July 16-19 at Muirfield Village.
