Gary Sowinski of the Hodges Golf Learning Center in Escondido had to rally to capture the Southern California PGA Super Senior Championship for the third consecutive year.
Sowinski came behind in the second and final round to win by four strokes over Paul Wise of Hillcrest Country Club in Los Angeles and Jon Fiedler of Las Posas Country Club in Camarillo at South Hills Country Club https://southhillscountryclub.org in West Covina.
“I knew, No. 1, starting out the day I had to catch Paul (Wise),” said Sowinski, who also claimed the 2012 Indiana Senior PGA Championship.
Sowinski carded four birdies in each round, shooting 70-69—139, 3-under-par, while Wise finished 69-74—143 and Fiedler, who also collected eight birdies in the two days, wound up at 72-71—143.
Bob Smith, a PGA Life Member from Ventura, was fourth at 72-74—146, followed by Jerry Wisz of Alhambra at 77-71—148, Davey Snyder of the Classic Club in Palm Desert at 75-74—149, Bill Hulbert of Yorba Linda at 78-74—152 and Fred Wood of Oceanside Golf Course at 79-75—154.
Hank Woodrome of Yorba Linda totaled 81-74—155 to tie for ninth with Paul Marchewka, a PGA Life Member from Oceanside, who finished at 76-79—155.
