Schmidt-Poppers win SCGA Foursomes title

Scotland Schmidt and Eli Poppers of San Diego made par on the first playoff hole to defeat Jordan Nasser of Irvine and Nico Bollini of Laguna Beach and win the 16th annual Southern California Golf Association Foursomes Championship at Santa Ana Country Club.

Schmidt sank a five-foot putt to wrap up the title after he and Peppers posted score of 73-69—142, 2-under-par, while Nasser and Bollini finished at 75-67— 142, and Corby Segal of Santa Clarita and Tim Hogarth were third at 73-70—143.

Scott Gibson of Long Beach and Peter Roberts of San Marcos and Joe Ryon of Carlsbad shot 70-74—144 to tie for fourth with Scott Gibson of Long Beach and Ryan Gale of Costa Mesa, who totaled 71-73—144, while David Ober of Riverside and Steve Bemis of finished at 75-71—146 to tie for sixth with Shane Muldowney and Trevor Norby of Carlsbad, who wound up at 78-68—146.

Nathan Celusta of Newbury Park and Jason Pridemore of Ventura were eighth at 74-73—147, while Davis Oas of Newbury Park and Geoff Park of Oceanside shot 74-74—148 to tie for ninth with Jerry Ledzinksi of Carmel and Michael Harrington of Palm Desert, who also came in at 74-74—148.

Defending champions John Pate and Jeff Wilson tied for 20th at 73-73—156.
