The San Francisco Park and Recreation Department announced that its golf courses, which have been closed because of the Coronavirus, will reopen on Monday.
That includes TPC Harding Park, which is set to host the rescheduled 102nd PGA Championship on Aug. 6-9, The Olympic Club (pictured) and Presidio Golf Course, which is overseen by the Presidio Trust, according to Presidio spokeswoman Lisa Petrie.
“After receiving clarity from state officials, the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department will reopen its public golf courses,” the Park and Rec statement said. “We are currently working out details to ensure the operations comply with the health orders and hope to have all courses open sometime next week.”
Said Mike Mibach, news anchor at KTVU, Channel 2, in Oakland: “I think I’m going to throw my sticks in the car and head over to San Francisco. I hear that Harding Park is going to be open.”
In addition, courses in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties and the city of Berkeley will be allowed to reopen on Monday.
As of last week, only about 28 percent of course in California were open according to Golf Digest, but Gov. Gavin Newsom said late in the week that courses could reopen if social distancing measures are observed.
Placer County, Stanislaus County and Napa County in Northern California; Kern County and San Luis Obispo County in Central California, and Ventura County, Orange County, Riverside County, San Bernardino County in Southern California have reopened courses in recent weeks.
Sacramento County courses have been open throughout the Coronavirus crisis.
Pebble Beach Golf Links and other courses on the Monterey Peninsula hope to reopen on June 1, according to multiple media reports.
