Salomon wins NCGA Stroke Play

Robby Salomon of Woodside shot 3-under 68 to win the Northern California Golf Association Amateur Stroke Play Championship by five strokes over Patrick Soli of San Carlos at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach.

Salomon, a senior at Cal State Monterey Bay, finished with a score of 70-71-68–209, 4-under-par, while Soli, of San Carlos and UC Davis, wound up at 69-75-70–214.

“It’s a relief,” said Salomon, who last won at the 2012 Marin County Amateur. “It’s a lot of frustration overcome. It feels really good.

“The key on this course, you know you’re going to make bogeys out here. When you do have a bad hole, you have to limit the damage.”

Jonathan De Los Reyes of Antioch and St. Mary’s was third at 73-77-65–215, followed by Jason Anthony of Fairfield and Fresno State at 67-73-76–215 and Ryan Gronlund of Pleasanton and SMU at 72-72-74–218.

Hayden Shieh of Fremont and Santa Clara totaled 75-71-73–219 to tie for sixth with Jonny Baxter of Pleasanton and UC Davis, who wound up at 75-70-74–219, Sunny Yan of Pebble Beach and Columbia, who finished at 71-74-74–219, and Ryan Knop of Pleasanton and UC Davis, who came in at 71-71-77–219.

Andrew Biggadike of Belmont and Guilford College was 10th at 74-73-75–222.
