Rueck’s Birdie on Second Playoff Hole Wins Genesis Invitational Collegiate

Cole Rueck of Boise State turned back Petr Hruby of Washington with a seven-foot birdie on the second playoff hole to win the ninth Genesis Invitational Collegiate at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades.

The event was a prelude to the PGA Tour’s Genesis Open, which will be played at Riviera beginning on Thursday.

This was the second year in a row thar the event finished in a playoff, as in 2023 Jack Wall of Tennessee Tech won the title with an eagle on the second extra hole, beating Alex Goff of Kentucky.

Rueck, a sophomore from Corvallis, Ore.,  who earned an exemption into the Genesis Scottish Open in July at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland, and Hruby both finished regulation play at one-under-par 71.

Caleb Shetler of San Jose State shot 72 to tie for third with Chuan-Tai Lin of Washinton and Riccardo Fantinelli of Princeton, while Kristof Panke of Wyoming totaled 73 to tie for fifth with Sangha Park of Texas-Permian Basin.

Kristopher Stiles of San Jose State was eighth at 74, while Taehoon Song of Washington came in at 75 to tie for ninth with his Husky teammate Bo Peng.

Previous winners of the Genesis Invitational Collegiate Showcase include Will Zalatoris, Sahith Theegala, Scottie Scheffler and Sean Yu.
