Richmond, Bailey Claim Titles in SCPGA Toyota Tour Cup Championship in Indio

Luke Bailey of Encinitas captured the Boys Division crown and Abra Richmond of Glendale took home the Girls Division title in the Southern California PGA Toyota Tour Cup Championship at the Golf Club at Terra Lago in Indio.

After failing to win on the TTC circuit since the Cherry Hills Summer Championship and the Tukwet Canyon Fall Challenge in 2020, Bailey came from five strokes behind in the final round to beat Joshua Chung of San Diego by three shots.

Bailey, a sophomore at Santa Fe Christian in Solana Beach who was 2022 Coastal League Player of the Year, shot of 71-68—139, five-under-par, while Chung was second at 66-76—142 with the help of an eagle at No. 10 in round one, followed by William Ma of San Diego, who made an eagle on the 10th hole in round one en route to a score of 73-70—143.

Adriel Abaoag of Burbank posted a score of 76-71—147 to tie for fourth with Kai Hirayama of Arcadia, who finished at 75-72—147, and Eston Kallins of Newport Beach, who wound up at 73-74—147.

Matt Robles of Downey totaled 75-73—148 to tie for seventh with Kent Karlstrom of Rancho Mirage, who finished at 74-74—148, Nick Waldock of Westlake Village, who also wound up at 74-74—148, and Richard Han of Irvine, who came in at 73-75—148.

Richmond, who won the TTC Cantlay Series event at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club earlier this season, carded a score of 70-72—142 to finish three shots ahead of Nikki Oh of Torrance, who totaled 71-74—145, and Alice Ziyi Zhao of Irvine, who also finished at 71-74—145.

“I am so excited to play on a college golf team,” said Richmond, who is a junior at Dwight School in Glendale. “I am looking for a college with a good fit of athletics and academics.”

Alona Avery was fourth at 74-72—146, while Jude Lee of Walnut shot 76-72—148 to tie for fifth with Sophia Fujita of Torrance, who wound up at 72-76—148.

Rina Kawasaki of Ranchos Palos Verdes totaled 76-73—149 to tie for seventh with Lucy Yuan of San Diego, who finished at 75-74—149, while Elina Kuang of Murrieta wound up at 77-73—150 to tie for ninth with Kacey Ly of Temple City, who wound up at 75-75—150.
