Penor, Biola Sweep NCCAA Championships

Sami Penor of Biola University in La Mirada captured the individual title in a playoff and led the Eagles to a dominating 22-stroke victory over Erskine College of South Carolina in the National Christian College Athletic Association Women’s Championships on the Conservatory Course at Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Fla.

Biola, led by NCCAA Coach of the Year Jane Carr, claimed its third victory of the season with a score of 312-311-309—932, 68-over-par, while Erskine totaled 316-310-328—954, and Campbellsville University of Kentucky was third at 319-325-333—977, followed by Bethel College of Indiana at 318-329-335—982.

Ottawa University of Arizona was fifth at 320-330-339—989, followed by Grace College of Indiana at 327-338-333—998, Southwestern Christian of Oklahoma at 329-334-338—1001, Oakland City University of Indiana at 353-357-374—1084 and Central Christian of Kansas at 358-384-382—1124.

Penor, a freshman from Henderson, Nev., who played on four Nevada State Championship teams at Coral Academy in Las Vegas, claimed the title with a three-foot birdie on the first extra hole to turn back Kylie Withrow of Campbellsville.

In winning her second title of the season, Penor carded a score of 78-75-76—229, 13-over-par, while Withrow finished at 74-76-79—229.

Anna Parramore of Erskine was third at 81-75-76—232, followed by Madelyn Lehr of Southwestern Christian at 76-78-79—233 and Katie Brooks of Bethel at 80-79-75—234.

Tori Roeske of Biola University was sixth at 80-77-78—235, while her Eagles teammate Sophia Karnazes shot 74-83-80—237 to tie for seventh with Michaela Jarman of Campbellsville, who wound up at 79-82-76—237.

Alexis Gopfert of Biola totaled 80-79-79—238 to tie for ninth with Kayli Melissa of Ottawa, who finished at 80-78-80—238, and Kayla Witt of Southwestern Christian, who came in at 79-79-80—238.

Jules Loibl rounded out the scoring for team champion Biola in a tie for 13th at 84-80-76—240.
