LPGA’s Mozo accepts prom invite from teen with neuro challenges

In May, Belen Mozo, a 24-year old LPGA player out of USC, received a video invitation to attend the Bearden (Tenn.) High School prom from Alex Notte, a senior with neuro-development disabilities. Notte became a fan of Mozo’s two years ago when he met her at the Wegman’s LPGA Championship in Rochester, N.Y. The meeting prompted Notte to take up golf in his hometown of Knoxville. Despite his physical challenges, Notte quickly progressed on the golf course and showcased his new abilities in the video invitation, set to the tune of “Call Me Maybe.” The video was uploaded to Mozo’s Facebook page and onto YouTube.

“I was really moved when I saw the video,” Mozo told the East Tennessee Catholic newsletter. “I knew immediately that I wanted to say ‘yes’. What impressed me was how Alex was so determined to follow his dreams, whether it be golf or finding a prom date, and that he refuses to be defined by the challenges standing in his way.”

Mozo and Notte enjoyed the Bearden prom in style, including transportation in a chauffeur-driven vintage Rolls Royce. The YouTube video of Notte’s invitation has received more than 11,000 hits.
