No. 1 Zhang Wins Stanford Debut, Leads Cardinal to Victory in Molly Collegiate

Rose Zhang of Stanford, the No. 1-ranked women’s amateur in the world, won her college debut by three strokes over teammate Caroline Sturdza and Natasha Andrea Oon of San Jose State as the Cardinal rallied in the final round to claim the team title in the Molly Collegiate Invitational at Bayonet Golf Course in Seaside.

Zhang (pictured far left), a freshman from Irvine, posted a score of 73-72-68—213, 3-under-par, while Sturdza, a freshman from Switzerland, finished at 76-73-67—216, and Oon, a senior from Malaysia, wound up at 71-74-71—216.

Mika Jin of Cal was fourth at 75-69-73—217, while Alessia Nobilio of UCLA carded a score of 73-73-73—219 to tie for fifth with Antonia Malate of San Jose State, who shot 72-73-74—219 and Katherine Zhu of California was seventh at 71-76-73—220.

Aline Krauter of Stanford totaled 77-74-70—221 to tie for eighth with Zoe Campos of UCLA, who finished at 70-73-78—221, while Vanessa Bouvet of Nebraska was 10th at 78-73-71—222.

Jennifer Koga led Sacramento State in a tie for 11th at 74-77-72—223, while Yu Shang of Fresno State tied for 24th at 76-78-74—228, Kaylyn Noh of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo tied for 28th at 78-76-75—229, Annika Borrelli of San Francisco shot 79-74-77—230 to finished in a tie for 31st that included her USF teammate Hannah Zeman, who finished at 72-79-79—230, and Cathy Tong of Cal State Monterey Bay tied for 74th at 86-78-81—245.

Rounding out the scoring for team champion Stanford were Calista Reyes in a tie for 18th at 76-74-76—226, Rebecca Becht in a tie for 45th at 79-78-77—234, and Yu Wen Lu in a tie for 57th at 78-83-76—237.

Stanford, coached by Anne Walker, won for the sixth time in the 2021 calendar year with a score of 301-295-282—878, 14-over-par, while San Jose State totaled 293-298-294—885 to tie for second with UCLA, while finished at 293-298-294—885, while Cal was fourth at 301-300-289—890, followed by Oregon State at 301-298-305—904.

New Mexico was sixth at 302-309-300—911, followed by Nebraska at 307-308- 301—916, Sacramento State at 313-302-304—919, UNLV at 317-302-301—920 and Nevada at 310-311-302—923.

San Francisco was 11th at 303-313-313–929, while Cal Poly SLO totaled 318-307-307—932 to tie for 12th with Fresno State, which wound up at 313-311-308—932, and UC Davis was 14th at 326-329-325—980.
